It is difficult to follow your dreams when you are surrounded by those who do not understand. There are those who will wish you to fail out of jealousy or spite, and then there are those who love you and want you to play it safe. Either way, it can be poisonous. Whether a snake bites you out of fear or malice, the venom will have the same effect! During these trying times, remember to stay true to you! I am speaking from experience. I spent 7 years studying a subject, only to find that I wanted to do something else! I do not regret what I have learned and feel that is still relevant to my journey. It hard having different people buzzing in your ear telling you what they think you should do. Why don’t you apply for this job? Have you tried a different state? What are you going to do? Ugh! It is enough to drive you crazy! It is important that you focus on what makes you happy! I was watching Oprah’s Life Class and she was speaking on material possessions. “No thing, material possession matters in terms of defining who you are” -Oprah. Just think about that, the next time you are stressing about how things look to everyone else. Are you truly happy with what you are doing? There is no mistaking what puts a smile on your face. Think about what you love doing when no one is watching. Stay true to those things. That is what will bring success to your life. Take a few minutes today to think about what brings joy to your heart. If it takes more than a few minutes, you have some work to do! Let’s go on this journey together. We all need encouragement a long the way. Please take time to write down what makes you happy on my blog spot. For some, it may be the first step to changing your life in a positive way!

Ebony after reading your blog, I realized that I don’t do anything
That truly brings joy to my heart other than being a mother/wife. I lost my identity by putting everyone else needs, wants, and desires in front of mine. After sitting here for quite some time trying to figure out what I do that brings joy to my heart and I couldn’t come up with one thing.
I want to thank you for this blog and my cousin who gave me suggestions on things I could do to find things I like doing, like looking back in my childhood of things I loved to do. So now I begin ny journey of reinventing myself and taking time out for me and finding things that bring joy to my heart. *First stop learn to play the cello again*
that is a good start! I discovered that reading is something that eases my mind and I also rediscovered my love of writing! I probably won’t do anything major with it but it’s a start!
This definitely is a necessary “check yourself” moment. It definitely makes you think about your happiness and the importance of being happy.
Happiness is something that lasts for a moment, but has lifelong consequences! I understand your educational struggles, hell it took me 7 years to find something that was intriguing enough to complete the degree requirements! I do agree that at the end of the day the only opinion that should count is the one that you indenpendantly form! and for the record, I wonder if Oprah is truly satisfied with her work?? eventually you’d get burnt out doing what she does!
Wonderful, Eb! I’m happy just reading this, but I’m a happy type of guy
. I thank God that there’s so many things that make me happy. For example, I’m happy just thinking that I know that you’re happy when you’re writing this blog. The Scriptures say that the joy of the Lord is my strength. I belieive that! Love ya!
Love, love, love this Ebonie!!! It’s so inspiring and makes you truly stop and think “am I truly happy and am I living for me?” For the longest time I was in a relationship where I was mistreated, but as long as he was happy I was fine. It took me some time to get out of that place and I couldn’t be happier! I’ve declared a major in school, in a great relationship, and I actually feel like I’m moving forward with my life instead of being in a stagnant state. The thing that I have discovered that truly makes me happiest in life is doing/being me.
That is awesome! Keep doing you! That is the best thing you can do for yourself. That is how you reach greatness by being true to what makes you happy! I am proud of you and glad that you are doing well!
